Hello, Comrades in English!
Before you start browsing the latest issue of The Magnifier, let me share a few thoughts with you. When we started The Magnifier in July, our primary purpose was to have a magazine of and for the students of English. We wanted to "magnify" aspects of studying English in Nagyvrad. Starting with this second issue, we want to achieve other things as well. From now on The Magnifier will include many different columns. On the page called "Snapshots" the columns will be directly related to the English-speaking world. Being students of English, we thought it would be both interesting and useful for all of us to learn about some news, dates and customs in connection with the history and cultures of such countries as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many others where English is spoken as an official language. Reading on, you will find "Bits and Pieces", which is your page, dear Reader. This means that the authors of the "articles" will be (can be) you. Furthermore, since The Magnifier is primarily designed for you, dearest creature in creation, in the columns of "Pros & Cons" and "Opinion Poll" you can make yourself heard…I mean, read. The aim of these columns is to tell the others what you think about certain topics. Oh! And I didn’t even mention the most important thing. On the page where magazines and newspapers usually start, i.e. the last page, in addition to humour, there will be a puzzle. If you send in the correct answer, you may be the happy owner of…a very special prize. Having said all these, on behalf of the staff, I would like to wish you a good time reading The Magnifier as well as a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year until we meet again on the pages of the next issue.
